Bummer!

Well, we went to Salt Lake, checked out the trailer then went to Huntsman for Curt's appointments. He started out with blood work, then on to the PET scan, which takes about 3 hours. Then back to the BMT clinic (bone marrow transplant) for a bone biopsy. Ouch! After that he went to have an MRI. The hospital then told us that we would be seeing Dr. Zangari next Tuesday then start treatment on Friday. Four days with nothing to do then see Dr. Z then another 4 days till treatment starts? We were really Bummed out and decided to just come home. So this morning we packed up what we would need and came home. The really sad part of this is that Daniel came all the way to Salt Lake so he could be with his Dad during the rough part of the treatment which we thought would start today. Made me feel real bad that they screwed up our schedule so bad. I asked the hospital if we could just have a phone conference call with the Dr. on Tuesday. Then go back up on Thursday to start treatment. They thought that would work. Guess we will find out Monday. I know we will not go to Salt Lake just to see the Dr. for 15 minutes. Daniel is still in Salt Lake and doesn't know what he wants to do and we passed Tishanna as she went to Salt Lake for a wedding. We didn't need to get a baby sitter for Clyde. That's the good part.

Curts new hat

Yesterday Daniel came to Parowan.  He will be going up to Salt Lake with us to help out for a while.  He brought some tools for Curt to use when he is cutting rocks etc. Then he brought out a present from Sarah.  She made him a viking hat.  He laughed and laughed.  So perfect!  We are just getting ready to go but putting it off as long as we can. We will leave Thursday morning early.  His first appointment is at eleven.   Seems like Curt is just getting his energy back and then Bam they start over again. Check out Daniel's hair do.  What a guy.  He says it is much cooler that way but I don't think Dad bought that story at all.

Hair or no Hair*********Clyde and Curt

Well, finally I was able to get Curt to let me take a picture of his new 'do'.  Clyde with his broken leg and Curt with no hair.  They both have issues.  Curt is keeping very busy making churches. He is also working in the garden so Tishanna will be able to maintain it while we are gone. She will be very busy baby sitting Clyde.  He has to have the splint on for 2 months.  Poor baby.  He is learning to maneuver around better but really wants to go out to his yard. Curt wants to go for a ride tomorrow, if it doesn't rain.  We will go to Pruse Reservoir.  He loves to fish there.  I''ll take pictures if we get to go.

Clyde's Story

I haven't up-dated the blog for awhile.  We have just been enjoying the time here at home, and working like crazy to get ready to go to Salt Lake. We did receive notice of Curt's next appointment up at Huntsman.  We will be going up north on the morning  (early)  of the 25th.  Curt will have a full battery of tests that day then meet with Dr. Zangari the next day.  Well on to Clyde's story.  On Sunday we had some friends over for a BBQ.  They have two small boys and we had a great dinner and visit. At around 9:00 P.M. Clyde usually comes around to the front of my chair and I ask him if he wants to go out.  He gets very excited and does a little bow.  I let him out the front door with Joplin  (Tishanna's dog).  They started for the street then started to growl and started to run over by the boat and car. I called them back then heard Clyde bark and whimper and saw him just sitting on the lawn.  He tried to get up but couldn't move.  He had broken his back right leg just above the ankle.  We got him into the house and checked him out.  He let me touch his leg but he was very scared.  I could tell that it was broken.  We calmed him down and he actually slept a little that night.   We were just going to have him stay downstairs to sleep but he wanted to go upstairs so we let him.  On Monday we took him to the Vet.  They sedated him and splinted his leg.  We were glad to find out that the Dr. could splint his leg and not send him to La Vegas! I picked him up at 6 and took him home.  At first he had problems maneuvering  around with the splint and he would whimper a lot.  The Vet had given me some meds for him so I gave him his pain pill and he spent Monday night down stairs. Tuesday, we went  down stairs and Clyde was doing fine and has been improving all day.  He sort of goes in a circle to lay down so he can drag the splinted leg around and lay down.  He went outside  lots too and is doing much better today.

Getting back to old routine

Well, I haven't added anything to the blog in a few days because there is really nothing to add.  We are back to our old routine probably just in time to leave and go to Salt Lake.  Home health has come twice to change the dressing on the Hickman port.  Curt has been feeling really good these last few days and has even gone out looking for rocks and took Tishanna.  He and I made two Parowan churches yesterday.  He is finishing them up today.  Yes, he lost his hair but is not ready to have me take a picture yet.  He will sometime soon when he is used to having no hair. We are just enjoying being home and not looking forward to going to Salt Lake, althought we would like to hurry this up and just be done with the Chemo.

The Road Warrior

For your weekend viewing pleasure and to bring a little cheer to the blog, I thought I would treat you to a film I made with some friends years ago in the desert just outside of Parowan.  This movie was recently shown to a crowd of people at DreamWorks Animation, garnering a wonderful enthusiastic response.  Do not attempt this at home. Enjoy.

Elaine at a big tree

This was taken while on our ride yesterday.  I took one of Curt but it didn't turn out good.ed.

Cactus Rose

Yesterday June 4the Curt was feeling pretty good so we went for a ride to find some good rocks.  Larry Lanier and Curt went to this place on the 3rd and found some pretty incredible rocks.  When we went we took the four wheeler so we wouldn't have to walk so far.  We found some good rocks but nothing really spectacular. Maybe next time.  On the way home we saw lots of cactus flowers so I thought I'd share with you.  On the sad side........Curt was taking a shower last night and most of his hair was falling out.  I think that most cancer patients deal very well with the physical pain.  They know what to expect.  Not fun.  But predictable.  On the other hand the emotional pain that they endure is very real and very hard when they lose their hair.  I have talked to some cancer patients at Huntsman and they all said that losing their hair was the hardest thing they had to see.  This morning Curt let me shave the rest off.  His head is very white so I think I will get some tan in a bottle to make his head not shine so much.  He did let me message his head and told me that I would have good luck.  He still has a sense of humor!  I may get to polish it tomorrow. He is trying to keep his spirits up.  he has been working on a painting of the Parowan Gap.  It is looking great.  He certainly hasn't lost his talent. We will be working on making some churches soon too.  The orders keep coming in. I'll send a picture of the Parowan pioneer church so you will see what he is making.
